Weekend Reading-

Every weekend you have the chance to read for extra credit. Write me a note that your read, the title of the book and parent initials.

Dear Parents,
           This is the summer letter given to each student that will be coming into the 4th grade next fall. If you have any questions about the book reports, summer reading requirements or math requirements, please email me. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you in the 2019-2020 school year!
           
             This summer I would like each student to read 1 fiction book, 1 non-fiction book and keep a reading log with daily reading recorded. The reading log is included in this packet. All students should read 1 hour a week or more. Students who complete their reading log showing 1 hour a week of reading and bring it back to school, will receive a prize.                            Students need to create a book report for each book, 2 book reports in all. Book reports will be presented to the class the 2^nd week of school. Please make sure the books are “Good Fit” books within the Lexile range of your child. Lexile levels are listed on the Map Test results under the Reading heading.
 
Here are the book report choices:

• Keep a diary for one character in the book, write from their point of view, at least 10 entries
• Make a comic strip telling the main events of the story, at least 10 entries
• Make a shoebox diorama of an important event from the book
• Make a crossword puzzle or word search with: character’s names, title, setting, important vocabulary from the book
• Make a timeline of important events, include at least 10 events
• Write a glossary (dictionary) of words and their definitions from the book, include illustrations where possible, include at least 10 entires
• Create a poster for the book and include the 5 W’s: who, what, where, why, when

               For Math I would like all students to go onto the IXL website and complete 30 minutes a week at the 3^rd grade or 4^th grade level. A parent letter with username and passwords is included in this packet. Students who complete 30 minutes a week of IXL Math will receive an ice cream party in September when we return to school for the 2019-2020 school year.

                Remember to keep up on your daily Reading and Math and record your reading on the reading log provided for you. The IXL Math is automatically recorded for you and I can check on your total minutes by looking at your account. Also remember, that the 2 book reports are due the second week of school.
