St. Pius X is blessed to have a team of passionate specialists who bring their unique talents to the table. These additional subjects provide students time to explore outside the core curriculum and inspire curiousity.
The Director of Learning Resources supports all students who may need help in core subjects. Our school is made up of diverse learners with different strengths and challenges. Working with classroom teachers we establish strategies for support for students in the classroom and if needed students are provided 1:1 support outside of the classroom. Our goal is to make sure every child receives what they need to be successful.
The LRC supports students in grades K-8 in reading, writing and math.
Technology is unavoidable in our modern world. Those who aren't given the proper tools to navigate not only operating technology, but understanding the social impacts of these technologies are bound to struggle. We give our students both foundational knowledge and the opportunity to explore in a safe environment.
Our tech lab is a collaborative space arranged circularly to maximize helpful discussions and encourage teamwork between students.
All students in Preschool - 8th grade participate in our music program. Students perform in both our Nativity Play in December, and the Spring Concert in April. Students are invited to sing during our All-School Mass every Wednesday; and we also host a School Mass once a month at St. Pius X Church - students practice the songs for Mass during music class and then participate as the choir for the Sunday Mass.
Honors Choir Elective is available for 6-8th Grade.
Learning Spanish as a second language can boost cognitive development, which means it can improve memory, attention, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, participation in the Spanish language learning program can expand cultural awareness and empathy, as my students learn about different perspectives, values, and traditions of other people. Students in PreK - 6th participate in our Spanish program.
Curriculum:
The Benefit of Physical Education is to provide the St. Pius X students with instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness. Physical Education provided to students can provide them with the ability and confidence to be physically active for a lifetime.
Physical Education is twice a week for preschool - 8th grade (instruction is 30 min. for PreS/PreK, 45 min. for K-8th). A typical class begins with a warm up activity for about 5 minutes. The students will participate in one to two activities, with the emphasis on motor skills and physical movement. The goal for each class is to work together and show good sportsmanship no matter the result of the activity.
Each unit has a particular focus and demonstrated skillset. For example, September units begin focusing on playground/recess games, following instructions and rules of the game. Another unit focuses on being mindful of your body and learning team games. The focus of units is also complementary to seach seasonal CYO sport. Soccer in the Fall, basketball in Winter, and volleyball and track in Spring.
